Combinations with/without supplement (Combo menus)

This guide provides a detailed step-by-step plan for configuring and using Combo menus in the cash register, based on the available resources.

What are Combo menus?

Combo menus are ideal for quickly entering fixed combinations such as weekly menus (starter + main course + dessert) or meal deals (drink + sandwich + fries). 
They allow a very fast input, which is especially useful for large groups.

Part 1: Configuring a Combo menu

Follow these steps in the cash register management panel to create a new menu:

1. Start a new Combo: Go to the product overview on the management page and click the "Combo" button at the top right, which is below the button for new products.
   
   
2. Fill in basic information:
   • Give the menu a name (e.g. "Suggestion of the Day").
   • Set a fixed price for the entire menu (e.g. €19).
   • Select the correct category.
     
      
3. Add steps (courses): Define the different parts of the menu by adding items to successive steps:
   • Step 1 (For example Starter/ 'Choose your Meal'): Add items such as tomato soup or broccoli soup.
   • Step 2 (For example Main course/ 'Choose your drink'): Add the items.
   • Step 3 (For example Dessert/ 'Choose your dessert'): Add the items.
     
4. Set supplements: If certain choices within the menu are more expensive (e.g. lobster), you can charge a supplement for this (e.g. €5 extra). Options that are on underlying products (such as a pepper sauce with a meat dish) are also automatically calculated as supplements.
   
5. Save: Once you save the configuration, the menu appears in the cash register with a specific combo interface.

Part 2: Use in the Cash Register

Once the configuration is ready, you can take orders:

1. Select the menu: Click on the desired combo menu in the cash register. An interface opens that differs from the classic product editor.

   

2. Make the choices: Go through the steps by clicking an item for each course (e.g. first the soup, then the main course, then the dessert).

   

3. Working with groups (Duplicating): For large tables, you can use the "Duplicate" button to quickly add the same menu for the next person

   

4. Make adjustments: You can easily click back on a specific person in the list to change a choice (e.g. change a dessert from sorbet to Dame Blanche).
5. Add to ticket: After completion, the menus are placed on the ticket. The cash register processes the fixed price by applying a pro rata discount on the underlying items.

Important notes and tips

• Kitchen tickets: Nothing changes for the kitchen; they simply receive the underlying products on the ticket (e.g. "19x soup", "19x Dame Blanche"), so they know exactly what to prepare.
• Keep it simple: The advice is to avoid products with many variations in a combo menu to prevent confusion. Preferably use free variations (such as cooking method) or work with simple supplements for extras like sauces.
• Error messages: The interface shows clear error messages if a required field or step is missed during input.
• Availability: This feature is available from Unipos version 1.6.81
